Sail Mhor View Proper Dog Friendly Holiday Cottage, Durnamuck

Sail Mhor View is our beautiful, detached, all one level cottage overlooking Little Loch Broom in the North West Highlands of Scotland. Owned and run by ourselves, we provide Proper Dog Friendly holidays, especially for people with multiple dogs. How many is multiple? Well, our current record is 10 – but get in touch with your requirements, and we’ll see if we can accommodate you! Breeds of all sizes are equally welcome, from Chihuahuas to Great Danes, and everything in between.

Reactive dogs are always welcome – there is very little passing traffic, nor people, as the cottage is on a tiny, single track, dead end road. There are 7 other detached houses scattered about, with us being the closest. Our house is below the cottage – our driveway runs down one side and the gates are adjacent – we are around if you need us, but you won’t see us otherwise, unless we happened to be going through our gate at the same time you were going out. Our own dogs do not have access to the part of our garden where the drive way is.

The garden is fully enclosed. Three sides have 6 ft fencing, a mix of wood panelling and heavy duty wire mesh with a 2” aperture. One side is enclosed by dry stone wall, with wire above. The wall is mostly at 5ft 5”, the lowest point is 4ft 9” but the wires strung above make the height just under 6ft. The cottage provides high standard accommodation for those who holiday with ALL their dogs. The garden is fully enclosed, with stunning views over the Loch and surrounding area. Please see our website for specific details about our fencing and garden.

We welcome dogs throughout, and on furniture with throws. The cottage has three bedrooms (one ensuite), a bathroom, and further cloakroom. There’s a very well-equipped kitchen, with its own Doggy Diner area, a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, larder style fridge, and under counter-size freezer. An additional freezer is available for raw feeders. There is also a lovely separate dining room, and a beautifully light and airy living room, with four sofas, and spectacular views over Little Loch Broom. Plenty of parking, directly outside the cottage, for easy unloading of luggage and dogs! And of course, we have WiFi. There’s also FreevSat TV with access to Netflix and Amazon Prime, through your own accounts.

‘The Dog Den at Sail Mhor View’: Whilst we welcome dogs everywhere, we also recognise that some prefer not to sleep with their humans, and some just like a bit of their own space, for some downtime. Our brand new Dog Den (as at January 2024), is a spacious, 8ft x 11ft room with non-slip flooring, and wipeable walls, just for dogs. Plenty of room for dog beds or crates (ours, or yours), a sink to top up water bowls, and storage for their toys, coats, or whatever else they like to bring.

We also have an external, heated ‘drying room’, with clothes hanging racks and boot racks, for wet weather gear and walking boots. It’s also perfect for drying off your dogs, using our professional standard 2800w doggy dryer, after they’ve used our outside warm water dog wash. Dog towels provided, as well as many other doggy supplies – memory foam beds, bowls, tags, throws, toys etc. Crate hire is availability for a donation to The Edward Foundation Charity. (£5 per crate, per week). We also offer buggy hire, for senior, or post-op dogs, for a £10 per week donation to Bulldog Rescue & Rehoming.

Sail Mhor View is very remote and rural – our local shop is 12 miles away, and the nearest supermarket is 32 miles. The closest pub / hotel, is 6 miles down the Loch. We have several stunning, sandy beaches close by, with no dog restrictions at any time of year, and the nearest is just a 10 minute drive away. There are walks from the door, as well as all around. (Please keep dogs under control around any livestock that may be on crofts in the area and note that deer are around all year).

We welcome up to 6 Adults Only (18+) with multiple dogs. Single dogs with just a couple of adults are also welcome, but we do not take bookings where the number of people significantly outnumber the dogs. Sail Mhor View is strictly No Smoking both inside and out, within the grounds. We take DIRECT BOOKINGS ONLY – we do not use any agencies, so you get to speak to us and have our contact details, from the initial enquiry, until the time you go home.
